i7 Scans was created as a way for me to give back to the anime and manga community, who had helped me develop a love for the Japanese language and culture. It was also created to give me an opportunity to further hone my ability to read, write, and understand Japanese.

Translator, Editor, Redrawer (worst job), Quality Checker, Distro (worst upload speeds ever!)

I am an anime and manga enthusiast that has bias toward philosophical themes, Byronic anti-heroes, or slice-of-life dramas that encapsulate the very feeling of life’s various struggles. I am self-taught when it comes to reading and translating Japanese. For this reason, there are still many things about the Japanese language that I do not understand. This site gives me an opportunity to further my ability to read and translate Japanese.

and my anime list here: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Impetus

My anime list tends to be more up to date than my manga list, since I read so many manga at once that it’s hard to keep track.

Translation Philosophy

I believe in translation over transliteration. What this means is that I will not necessarily translate everything word-for-word. Google can do that. There are both feelings and meanings to words. What I attempt do is bring to life the feelings of each character, so that both words and feelings can be conveyed to the reader in a more natural sounding English. This is not always possible, so sometimes I leave certain words untranslated and instead explain their meanings in the translation notes. I also leave honorifics since it can be quite difficult to translate their meaning when they are changed in a sarcastic or diminutive manner.

  5. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your scanning/translating a really great manga. You do a great job, and I eagerly await each new chapter, and enjoy it greatly when it appears on Batoto. I’ve always been a fan of things Japanese, but only discovered manga late in life, and have been pretty devoted to a number of titles since then. This is one of them, and it is also one of the best translated and presented. Thanks a lot.
